Don't follow the career crowd

There's some unsaid understanding that everyone should know what they're doing with their entire lives as soon as they turn 18. There's an implied necessity for higher education. There's an opinion that women should go out and get a career...improve equality...whatever.

For the past couple of years I've been trying to convince myself that I was going to go along with the rest of society (what I was "supposed" to do) and go to a four year college, get a degree, join the work force. I've been walking in the footsteps of everyone around me, going in a direction that I don't need to go.

But that's not what I'm Called to do. For the longest time, I've been in denial. "You don't have to go to college," my parents would tell me. "Of course I'm going to college!!" I would snap.

My passions and Calling lined up and I mistakenly channeled it into things that I wouldn't really fit doing. Counseling

Youth Pastor

Elementary Education

And all along, God had been prodding me with the simplest thought. "Why aren't you okay with just being a wife and a mom?" And even, "Do you have to be paid to get fulfillment?"

We have a money-oriented culture. You can't make it in this world without making $X/yr.

But is it worth throwing away your true Calling to fit in with society? In my opinion, absolutely not!!! So when I'm asked, "Oh, what's your major?" "What are you in school for?" "What do you want to be?" Maybe it's okay to answer with "Motherhood." And I just want to encourage everyone reading this. Maybe you're secure in the direction you're going. That's awesome!! Maybe you're very unsure. I would encourage you to NOT think about what people will say, and choose a path that will leave you satisfied. Ignored Calling results in a miserable life (10/10).

So the path I took was more expensive than someone who actually listens to God from the very start, but I learned so much along the way and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Embrace your entire journey!!! There's a reason you're on it. To learn, grow, and help others.

Thanks for reading :) You are all wonderful!
